Join us for a special video presentation in honour of the 10-year mark of Orange Shirt Day. In The Origin of Orange Shirt Day, founder Phyllis Webstad tells her story of growing up in an Indigenous community and attending a residential school as a third-generation residential school survivor.
Phyllis Webstad is Northern Secwpemc (Shuswap) from the Stswecem’c Xgat’tem First Nation (Canoe Creek Indian Band). As the Founder and Ambassador of the Orange Shirt Society, she tours the country telling her story and raising awareness about the impacts of the residential school system.
