With Kristy Jackson, author of Mortified
Aspiring writers—come and ask Kristy Jackson, author of Mortified, about her writing process! This event is an afterschool writing workshop for middle graders.
As well as reading from her book, Kristy Jackson shares her top tips for young writers and talks about what sparked the themes in Mortified. Find out what it was like working with comic artist RhaeL McGregor who created the visuals for Mortified. Be prepared to laugh and learn!
When someone secretly signs Belinda Houle—the school’s most introverted kid—up to audition for a school play, Belinda turns to her best friend and resident witch, Sally, for a spell. A spell for confidence. Except it feels more like a curse! What follows the ritual is comical series of tragedies, from makeup allergies, to losing her chemically straightened hair, accidentally eating dog treats, and more.
Set in a small Saskatchewan town with more dogs than people, Mortified will appeal to fans of Dork Diaries, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and anyone who enjoy comics and funny MC novels.
Kristy Jackson is a communications professional and the mother of two boys. Her work draws inspiration from her Cree and German background and a long list of embarrassing moments of her own. Jackson runs a program that delivers books to children in seven remote Indigenous communities in Canada. She also volunteers for a non-profit dedicated to improving literacy in her community. Mortified is her debut novel.
