She shares the journey of her book, Reuniting with Strangers, which was inspired by stories from the Filipino Canadian community. Her novel was recently longlisted for CBC's 2024 "battle of the books" competition, Canada Reads.
Reuniting With Strangers, interweaves nine stories from around the globe—a cliffside town in the Philippines highlands, Filipino communities in the desert of Osoyoos, the Arctic world of Iqaluit, the suburbs of Sarnia's Chemical Valley, Montréal’s Côte-des-Neiges, and Toronto’s Little Manila. Jennilee Austria-Bonifacio’s stunning debut opens a window into the homes and hearts of the Filipino-Canadian community, giving readers a glimpse into the multi-faceted Filipino diaspora, and the displacement, estrangement, resilience, and healing that happen behind closed doors.
