Centennial HallAuthor of Black Cherokee
What does it mean to belong when others question who you are? Acclaimed author Antonio Michael Downing tackles this powerful question in his debut novel, Black Cherokee.
Set in 1990s South Carolina, Black Cherokee follows Ophelia Blue Rivers, a young girl of Black and Cherokee ancestry searching for family, identity, and acceptance in a community that questions her heritage and refuses to accept her ancestry as legitimate.
Hear Downing discuss the inspiration behind his novel, the complexities of race and identity, and the power of storytelling to examine who we are and where we belong.
A Different Drummer Books will be on-site with books for sale and signing after the talk.
Presented in collaboration with Simon & Schuster
