Jesse Wente on Tough Lies
Monday, November 16
7:00pm - 8:00pm

Centennial HallWith writer & broadcaster Jesse Wente
How do we heal from colonialism? What does healing look like for First Nations and non-Indigenous people, and what barriers stand in the way?
These questions are at the heart of Tough Lies, the highly anticipated new book by Jesse Wente, an Anishinaabe writer, broadcaster, and one of Canada’s foremost thinkers. Drawing on his own healing journey, Wente considers what reconciliation between Nations requires and examines the controversial issue of false claims to Indigenous identity.
With honesty and humour, Wente also reflects on grief, the pressure to succeed, the racism he has faced, and his place within family and community—even the surprising role that rediscovering golf has played in his life.
Following his nationally bestselling debut memoir, Unreconciled, Tough Lies offers a deeply personal look at healing and the present and future of reconciliation in Canada.
A Different Drummer Books will be on-site with books for sale and signing after the talk.
Presented in collaboration with Allen Lane
