Join award-winning authors Ian Hamilton and John Lawrence Reynolds in conversation and collaboration. Hear the stories behind their nationally bestselling books as John and Ian talk about their writing careers, what influences and inspires them, and how they plot their crime novels. And then it's time for some action—when our intrepid writers team up to turn plot and character details—selected by you—into two original novel concepts on the spot!

John Lawrence Reynolds is the author of 40+ fiction and non-fiction books—including BPL's 2013 One Book One Burlington featured title, Beach Strip—and one of Canada's most successful ghostwriters. After an extensive advertising career alongside stints as a musician, photographer, and on-air radio host, his first novel, the critically acclaimed 1989 mystery, The Man Who Murdered God, was followed by a lengthy list of titles, including several ghost-writing projects. Among numerous literary honours, he has won three Arthur Ellis awards for Best Mystery Fiction. He wrapped up his Beach Strip trilogy with the release of Beach Blues in July 2024.

Ian Hamilton has written over 20 bestselling mystery novels. He is a former journalist, diplomat, and civil servant who published his first novel when most people consider retiring. His debut novel, The Water Rat of Wanchai (Ava Lee series Book #1), was published in 2011 and won the Arthur Ellis Award for Best First Crime Novel. His books have been shortlisted for the Crime Writers of Canada Award (formerly the Arthur Ellis Award), the Barry Award, and the Lambda Literary Prize. BBC Culture named him one of the ten mystery/crime writers who should be on your bookshelf. The Ava Lee series is being adapted for television.
