Spoken Word Performance & Writing Workshop
Try your hand at writing a spoken word poem in this hands-on workshop. After a performance and introduction, Lisa Shen will guide participants step-by-step through the writing process, explaining how to incorporate imagery and engage the senses. You'll have a chance to share your work—bring your bravery!
Lisa Shen (she/her) is a writer and spoken word artist based in Toronto, Canada. Her work centers on feminism and gender-based violence, with secondary focuses on Chinese-Canadianism, disability, and queer identity. A winner of multiple slam and poetry awards, she has featured at arts festivals and events across North America, and has various works published. Lisa is the Director of Sauga Poetry, Mississauga’s hub for spoken word events, and recently won the 2022 Buddies Queer Emerging Artists Award for Spoken Word/Poetry for her contribution to community. Dedicated to uplifting spoken word across the Greater Toronto Area, she works with high schools to bring poetry into the classroom.
