Come to our Ontario Public Library Week book chat
Come and celebrate Ontario Public Library Week with us at our 'special edition' book club! We are reading The Library Book by Susan Orlean and having light discussion around this great read. Once you have registered, please stop by Alton Branch to pick up your book from the customer service desk.
Susan Orlean examines the fire that destroyed some four hundred thousand volumes in the Los Angeles Public Library, two and a half decades ago. She probes at the fire's causes and aftermath, addressing the question of who, if anyone, was responsible. More than that, she examines books and libraries: the history of the Los Angeles system, the culture of librarians, and what drives our beloved institutions forward.

This year, Ontario Public Library Week, October 20 to 24, is all about "Libraries for Life." OPLW, as a part of Canadian Library Month, is an annual commemoration to raise awareness of the valuable role libraries play in the lives of people in Ontario.
If you need an accessibility accommodation during this program, please register early so we can confirm arrangements a few days before your visit.
Located in a shared facility with Dr Frank J Hayden Secondary School and Haber Recreation Centre, Alton Branch Library operates jointly with the Halton Board of Education. The facility's official opening was celebrated on Saturday, November 23, 2013
