Denise Davy is a nationally recognized award-winning journalist, and author of Her Name Was Margaret: Life and Death on the Streets. In her book, Denise explores the tragic life of a homeless woman and exposes the flawed plan that led to the homelessness epidemic we see today. Her Name Was Margaret, was included in Toronto Star’s “must-read” books for 2021.
This Burlington-based investigative reporter has covered a wide range of social issues, from child prostitution in Thailand and poverty and family planning in India to child poverty, adoption, and women's issues here in Canada. Known to local readers, Denise was a reporter for the Hamilton Spectator for 26 years and a feature writer for Chatelaine magazine, CBC Hamilton, the Toronto Star, the Globe & Mail, and ParentsCanada, to name a few. Her list of accolades is long and includes a nomination for Burlington's Citizen of the Year (2014) and Ontario Newspaper Awards Journalist of the Year (2010). In addition, Denise is the founder of Purses for Margaret, a local initiative that provides essential toiletries to homeless women.
