In celebration of Emancipation, watch pre-recorded presentations by historians, government representatives, community leaders, and entertainers, many of whom are descendants of enslaved peoples, orphaned youths, and freedom/equality activists who denounce racism and promote cultural knowledge, inclusive integration, and authentic equality.
This presentation celebrates 187 years since the British Emancipation Act of 1834, and recognizes that the Emancipation process began in the Halton/Hamilton/Niagara area, as well as the first anniversary of Canada's legislated National Emancipation Day and Burlington as the first city in the world to acclaim August as Emancipation Month. A Burlington Heritage Week event.
