Centennial HallAuthor of Time and Tide
Author, actor, and screenwriter J.M. Frey discusses the ideas and stories behind her novels Time and Tide and Nine Tenths.
In Time and Tide, Sam Franklin's plane crashes catastrophically over the Atlantic and, beyond all odds, Sam, the sole survivor, is rescued by a warship in 1805. As she begins to find her footing in a 19th-century world she’s only seen in movies, she builds a relationship with Margaret Goodenough, the world-famous author whose yet-to-be-completed novel will contain the first lesbian kiss in the history of British Literature.
In Nine-Tenths, Colin Levesque is making ends meet working at a café when Dav, a regular he has a crush on, admits he has feelings for Colin too. When Dav volunteers to take over the coffee roasting with his fire-breath, people start claiming the dragon-roasted coffee has cured their genetic ailments. The hype around the coffee leads the lovers to be embroiled in a centuries-old international conspiracy: dragon-roasted food has always healed humans.
