With Abigail Richardson-Schulte, HPO Composer-in-Residence
Abigail Richardson-Schulte presents a fascinating look into the lives and music of composers featured on the HPO stage.
In this talk, Richardson-Schulte discusses the “two Bs” of the world’s most famous composers, Beethoven and Brahms, who found their way to Vienna seventy years apart. Beethoven composed in the Classical era, while Brahms composed in the Romantic era. Their paths couldn’t have been more different, though they were both legendary pianists.
Beethoven performed his way through royal living rooms to build his network and career, though butted heads with Royals along the way. The unknown Brahms was thrown into the limelight by being "discovered," but made a mistake by taking on the musical celebrity of the day, Franz Liszt. Following their own paths, not trends of the day, led both Beethoven and Brahms to become pinnacles of their eras of music.
Starting at noon on March 18, you can also register in advance for the HPO talk on April 29 In and Out of Russia
