Learn about mental health & take a walk with us
Get moving, stay active, and discover the many benefits of walking!
In 2023, Statistics Canada reported that rates of anxiety and depression among Canadians aged 15 and older have doubled over the past decade. Yet, effective treatments for these mental health challenges remain underused or unfamiliar to many. In this session, Burlington Family Health Team psychotherapist Tara Salehi Varela, MSW, RSW, introduces Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)—the gold-standard treatment for anxiety and depression. She shares practical CBT strategies and explains how to access publicly funded therapy options in Burlington. After the talk, spend the rest of the hour enjoying a refreshing group walk to reflect and recharge!
Please arrive 10 minutes before the walk. Meet us near the Fireplace at the Tansley Woods Branch. We will then move to the outdoor space at Tansley Woods, facing the grassy field just in front of the library parking lot (just south of Upper Middle).
Walking is a wonderful form of physical activity and we encourage all levels of walking ability to participate in this event—whether you complete the entire walk or join us for part of the journey! Walking devices, mobility aids, and walking companions are welcome. All participants must sign a waiver, which is provided at the start of the walk.
